Event Background

On November 24, 2023, the China-France Carbon Neutrality Center was announced to be established with the witness of senior officials from China and France governments. Chinese and French research institutions will focus on long-term exchanges and cooperation in the field of carbon neutrality, and support exchanges and mutual visits of research teams, and make new contributions to addressing climate change and other global challenges.

To effectively advance the carbon peaking and provide young individuals with insights and knowledge in climate emission reduction, the CEADs team has successfully organized five sessions of Carbon Accounting Summer Camps.CEADs team is organizing the inaugural China-France Carbon Neutrality Center Summer School in conjunction with the 2024 CEADs Summer Camp.Distinguished scholars and specialists will be invited to deliver talks on the theories and practices related to carbon peaking, carbon neutrality, and carbon accounting. Topics such as carbon markets, carbon footprint accounting, carbon emission reduction pathways, and CCER will all be covered. Participants will engage in research through group activities, investigating the socioeconomic consequences of climate change and examining the growth routes of dual-carbon transformation, under the supervision of experts. The event aims to represent the fundamental concepts of the carbon neutrality strategy, cultivate professionals in carbon emission reduction with international perspectives and serve as a talent pool for carbon neutrality that benefits both China and France.

This year, the organizer will lead the campers to Harbin, Heilongjiang Province, the first Internet red city in China since the beginning of 2024, to understand Harbin's unique charm of ice and snow, as well as the cultural heritage, and to carry out an international and diversified academic feast in Harbin.

Venue introduction

Harbin is located in the northeast of China and the southwest of Heilongjiang Province. It is the provincial capital and sub provincial city of Heilongjiang Province, and is the political, economic, and cultural center of northern Northeast China. The special historical process and geographical location have created Harbin, a beautiful city with an exotic atmosphere. It not only gathers the historical and cultural heritage of northern ethnic minorities, but also integrates Chinese and foreign cultures. It is a famous historical and cultural city and tourist city in China, known as the "Ice City", "Oriental Moscow", and "Oriental Paris". The land area of the city is 53100 square kilometers. By the end of 2022, the total registered residence population will be 9.395 million, including 10198 square kilometers of urban area and 5.519 million people in nine districts. With 45 ethnic minorities and a diverse range of religious cultures, it is the only city in China where Buddhism, Taoism, Christianity, Catholicism, Islam, and Eastern Orthodoxy coexist.
